The contract for the Rose of Tralee Regional Festival will end after this year’s event.
Laois County Council signed a three year contract back in 2012, to keep the festival in Laois, but that contract is now up for renewal and it is believed that Kerry County Council are eager to get the lucrative festival back to the county.
The communications manager of the International festival, John Drummey, said the Rose of Tralee committee were still happy to work with Laois and no decision would be made on the future of the festival until after this year’s event.
“The current contract between the Rose of Tralee International Festival and Laois County Council to host the Regional Festival in County Laois does not end until after the 2015 event,” Mr Dummey said.
“No decision has been made as where the event will be staged in the future, while both parties are looking forward to discussing the options in the coming weeks.”
Laois Rose Co-ordinator, Anne Marie Bowe said it would be fantastic to see the festival retained in the county.
“It would be a different focus for the Laois Rose, if it wasn’t in Laois. Last year Teresa delivered her speech in Irish and English at ease, but it is an added pressure for the girls.
“It would be fantastic to see it retained, the buzz around Main Street over the weekend is great to see.”
