‘Tedious’ work on Graigue relief road

Councillors have welcomed the signing of contracts to buy land for the Carlow Northern Relief Road extension.

Councillors have welcomed the signing of contracts to buy land for the Carlow Northern Relief Road extension.

Cathaoirleach Cllr John Joe Fennelly thanked Kieran Kehoe and council staff.

“I know you were working very hard on the tedious work in getting the Carlow NRR ready to go. You got through every problem, and it is very positive for Graiguecullen and all that side of Laois,” he said at the February meeting.

Laois County Council will now draw up designs for the road inhouse.

“It will be managed by our senior engineers Orla Barrett and James Neville,” said Mr Kehoe, the Director of Services for Infrastructure.

Site investigations are underway. The 800m section will join the roundabout on the Castlecomer Road to a new roundabout on the Numbers Road, in the future forming part of the Carlow Ring Road.
