Portarlington Tidy Towns want to make their town a ‘poster free zone’ in efforts to improve their score in the national Tidy Towns competition.

The group of five volunteers have asked Laois and Offaly county councils for support.

“A survey conducted during the 2014 local election found 315 posters on poles within the town boundaries. This volume of posters coupled with fly posters from business, clubs and organisations causes a negative impact on the town and is reflected in our national scoring,” the group say.

The campaign will commence as part of the national Spring clean, ‘Clean Up Laois Week’ in April.
