“If the developer doesn’t take action to secure it, I will request that the council implement the Derelict Sites act. It’s criminal to allow this to happen,” he said, standing inside the smashed open door of one of many derelict apartments, where drug use, copper theft and human faeces was in plentiful evidence.

“People in the town do not believe this is going on, it’s damage for the sake of it, wanton destruction,” he said.

He has also asked NAMA to secure the site.

“NAMA secured Avon after vandalism there. This is an asset they are trying to sell, it’s in their interest to secure it to get the best price for the taxpayer,” he added.
