The Irish Prison Service are to discipline prison escorts over “wildcat” action.

Last Wednesday July 29, 33 Prison Service Escort Corp (PSEC) staff reported for duty but said that they were not in a position to fulfil their driving duties as they had forgotten their driving licences.

“The IPS views this action as wildcat industrial action by individual staff, which is in total contravention of all industrial relations procedures. It represents a serious breach of discipline and will be dealt with under the appropriate disciplinary procedure,” the IPS said.

They link the action to difficulties over a recently agreed new roster for escort corps. The Prison Officers Association declined to comment.
