No pay by weight for at least another year

Pay by Weight charges at the Recycling Plant in Kyletalesha will not be enforced until at least this time next year, according to the Department of the environment.

Pay by Weight charges at the Recycling Plant in Kyletalesha will not be enforced until at least this time next year, according to the Department of the environment.

Cllr Willie Aird called on Minister Alan Kelly, not to introduce the charges at the local recycling plant.

The council said they had received confirmation from the Department of Environment that the derogation for Civic Amenity Sites is in place until at least July 2016.

The Department said a working group had been set up to ‘determine the optimum process for the implementation of pay-by-weight at civic amenity facilities.’

“The current system is working a dream. If you introduce a charge there will be litter strewn all over the county,” Cllr Aird said.

“We should get a better use for recycled goods rather than penalise people who are good enough to drive out there.”
