Fine Gael TD Charlie Flanagan has welcomed changes to the train services for Laois commuters from next month.

The TD said new services would commence on May 8.

“I am in touch with Iarnród Éireann on a regular basis on matters brought to my attention by train users living in Laois so I know that this week’s announcement that there are to be additional services will be very welcome.

“Laois residents taking the train from Portlaoise or Portarlington will now have four additional services available to them,” said the TD.

The new services are: 05:50 Portarlington Heuston will now start at 05:40 at Portlaoise; 07:35 Galway – Heuston will now serve Portarlington at 09:31; 13:45 Tralee Heuston will now serve Portarlington at 16:50 (Sun Only); 16:25 Heuston Limerick will now serve Portarlington at 17:12 and Portlaoise at 17:25.

He said he would continue to work to ensure that people here in Laois are “given the best possible train service.
