GARDAI in Portlaoise are investigating the first case of highway robbery in Laois for many a year.
The incident is understood to have happened in the early hours of Monday morning last (April 11) close to the famous Coolbanagher Church near Emo.
At a round 3.40am a motorist who was travelling on the Portlaoise to Portarlington road saw a body lying on the road. The Good Samaritan immediately stopped to help the person but soon discovered he was being held up.
Phoenix like, the stretched man resurrected himself and brandished a knife threatening the man to hand over his valuabls. He was joined by a second man who joined in the mugging.
Fortunately, the victim was not injured but his mobile phone and wallet were stolen by the thieves.
