Clonaslee link to in hit and run

A MAN from Killeigh was killed in a hit and run incident at the weekend had been walking from Clonaslee to the Offaly villages when was hit by a car at Gurteen in the early hours of Saturday morning, June 2.

A MAN from Killeigh was killed in a hit and run incident at the weekend had been walking from Clonaslee to the Offaly villages when was hit by a car at Gurteen in the early hours of Saturday morning, June 2.

Mr James Dillon had taken a taxi from Tullamore to Clonaslee in the early hours of Saturday morning. Some time later he was walking towards home and was struck by a car coming in the opposite direction. A local woman saw him lying injured on the road and waited with him until the emergency services arrived. Mr Dillon was brought immediately to the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore but later died.

A man in his 50s, who lives in Tullamore, was detained in relation to the incident and was later released without charge. A file is currently being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
