The owner of the mobile shop that parks at the Catholes swimming spot in the Slieve Blooms says he is not the one causing litter.
Vincent Gorman, who operates the trailer shop in warm weather, was responding to a recent report about littering at the scenic spot.
“I actually pick up other people’s rubbish around my shop when I park there. It’s bottles, cans and barbecues that are dumped. I put a big black bin outside my shop,” he said.
“The council should have a steel skip there, with a small opening,” he says.
He says he has tried to get a licence from Laois County council but all they can offer is a casual trading licence in the market square in Portlaoise,
“They said it’s a grey area,” said Mr Gorman.
He wanted to build a mobile toilet for the mountain’s scenic spots including Glenbarrow, but says he was told he would need planning permission.
