A MAN who went dancing in the street on the night of his 21st birthday, causing a disruption to the traffic, was fined at last week’s district court in Portlaoise and ordered to keep out of all pubs.

David Eremita, with an address listed at 20 Obelisk Grove, St Augustine’s Park, Blackrock, Dublin, was observed by gardaí at Main Street, Portlaoise, on October 29 last year.

Inspector Declan Dunne gave evidence that Eremita was highly intoxicated and was stopping the traffic. He was directed to stop but failed to do so and was arrested.

Eremita has five previous convictions.

Defence, Mr Philip Meagher explained that it had been the night of Eremita’s 21st birthday and he had been drinking shots with friends, something he wouldn’t normally do.

“He was extremely intoxicated,” admitted Mr Meagher. “He was dancing in the street and causing a nuisance. He should have moved on.”

Judge Mitchell imposed fines of €300 and €100. He also imposed an exclusion order, prohibiting Eremita from entering any licensed premises in county Laois for the next six months.
