Holy Angels to be cleared for work

Parents of babies who are buried in the Holy Angels plot in Portlaoise have been asked to remove all items in memory of their babies from the plot by the end of September.

Parents of babies who are buried in the Holy Angels plot in Portlaoise have been asked to remove all items in memory of their babies from the plot by the end of September.

Any items not removed before that date will be removed by the Holy Angels’ Consultative Forum and held in storage until an upgrade on the grave is completed next summer.

It is proposed to provide a new grey granite headstone at the Holy Angels’ Plot. The wording “Erected in loving memory of all little angels buried here” and a reflection/poem will be inscribed on the headstone.

In addition, two granite vases for fresh flowers, an eternal flame, an area for gifts and plaques will be provided at the plot. Two seats will also be provided and the grave will be protected with grey chippings.

Parents who wish to have their baby’s names inscribed on the headstone are invited to contact Mary Fitzpatrick at 057 86 96043 (9 am to 5 pm) or at mary.fitzpatrick5@hse.ie.

The Consultative Forum also wished to highlight that no babies’ remains will be disturbed during the upgrade of the plot.

The upgrade is proposed in consideration of all parents of babies buried at the Holy Angels’ Plot. Queries regarding the upgrade may be made to Mary Fitzpatrick or to holy.angels@hse.ie.

The Holy Angels’ Consultative Forum in conjunction with staff in the Maternity Unit in Portlaoise and the parish clergy propose to hold a Christmas Remembrance Service at the Holy Angels’ Plot for bereaved parents, families and friends of Angels buried in the Holy Angels’ Plot.
