A Stradbally woman who worked as a care worker appeared before last week’s district court charged with stealing over €35,000 from people she was supposed to be caring for.

Ann Buggy, 9 Droimnin, Stradbally, was charged with 55 counts of theft, at St Joseph’s, Mooreabbey, Monasterevin.

Inspector Aidan Farrelly gave evidence that the alleged offences occurred between 2010 and 2012, with Buggy stealing over €35,000 from the bank accounts of a number of women under her care.

Judge Catherine Staines said she would reserve the issue of jurisdiction and the case was put back to October 16.

Defence, Ms Josephine Fitzpatrick requested a statements order.
