The Davern family from the TV show “Ireland’s Fittest Family” came to Clonaslee College on Thursday November 20 to launch the ‘Sat Nav’ Bank run by Transition Year students.
The Daverns got a rapturous welcome by First, Second, Transition Year students and the school bank committee.
This committee under the guidance of Business Teacher Martina Lydon has developed the Sat Nav Bank as part of the AIB Build-a-Bank programme, and organised the launch.
Michael, Kieran, Nicole and Mick were put through their paces, bombarded with questions by the enthusiastic students, on training schedules, their sporting achievements, their time on “Ireland’s Fittest Family”, their mentor Davy Fitzgerald and their ambitions for the future.
Kieran Davern spoke about combating bullying and setting goals while Nicole spoke about balancing schoolwork, a social life and training.
Michael spoke of having a very strong sense of self belief and Mick spoke about the enjoyment and fulfilment from sport.
TY Bank Manager, Liam Delaney thanked the Daverns for taking time out to speak and advise the students.
He outlined the plans for the Sat Nav Bank in the school and community projects to promote it.
Mick Davern then cut the ribbon to mark the official opening of the Clonaslee Sat Nav Bank.
Thanks were extended to Nora White and Sarah Casey from AIB Bank, and local businesses who sponsored raffle prizes.
Draw winners were Caleb Rigney Martin, Emma Gorman, Elody Fitzpatrick, Rachel O’Meara, David McCane, Emma Carroll and William Cummings.
