GARDAÍ are appealing for information about two burglaries that occurred in Ballylinan at the weekend.

Two vacant houses were broken into on Sunday, May 20, one in the Boley area of Ballylinan and one in Corbally. The thieves gained forced entry to the premises and ransacked the houses, before making off with a number of personal items. Gardaí believe the two incidents are related and they are appealing for anyone with any information to contact them on 05786 74100.

Meanwhile in Portlaoise on the same date, a man was arrested after he was observed trespassing at the ESB compound on the town’s Abbeyleix Road. Gardaí were alerted to the intruder around 3pm on Sunday and a lengthy pursuit on foot ensued when the man attempted to flee the scene. The man, who is not from the area, was eventually arrested and will be appearing before a future sitting of the District Court. A garda spokesperson confirmed that the man was most likely on the premises attempting to steal items, such as lead or copper, which can be sold on.
