A LATVIAN national who stole a web cam “on impulse” from a local supermarket was fined at last week’s district court.

A LATVIAN national who stole a web cam “on impulse” from a local supermarket was fined at last week’s district court.

Dmitrijs Mikalajuns, 27 Newpark, Portlaoise, committed the theft at Tesco, Portlaoise, on November 16.

Inspector Martin Harrington gave evidence that Mikalajuns took the web cam, valued at €69, without paying. He also took an item of food.

The defendant has previous convictions under the Road Traffic Act.

Defence, Mr Declan Breen explained that his client had gone to the store to do shopping and took the web cam with the intention of paying, but “on impulse” he took the tag off and threw it away, before doing the same with an item of food.

Mikalajuns was fined €200.
