Stole handbag from Portlaoise hospital

A CORK woman with 124 previous convictions who stole a handbag from Portlaoise Hospital told last week’s district court that she thought the bag was hers.

Deirdre O’Sullivan, with an address at 21 Bridevalley Way, Fairhill, Cork, committed the offence on February 18. She was also charged at last week’s court with burglary in Cork, on January 22 last year. There was also a charge of failing to appear in court in February of this year.

Defence, Ms Josephine Fitzpatrick admitted that her client had an appalling record. Ms Fitzpatrick said that O’Sullivan had been in company on the day, when she discovered that her red handbag had disappeared. The person she suspected of taking it was due at the hospital, so O’Sullivan went to the hospital where she picked up a red handbag which she thought was hers.

O’Sullivan was sentenced to one month in prison. Recognizance was fixed in the event of an appeal, on her own bond of €100 with an independent cash surety of €100.
