Plans finalised for Holy Angels plot

The Holy Angels Plot Committee has been meeting over many months and has given careful thought and consideration to the works to be undertaken.

The original plot, which holds the remains of 130 babies, is now closed and a new plot has been opened. A new memorial head stone is being erected on the old plot later this year. Anyone wishing to have a baby’s name included on the headstone can contact a committee member or Mary Fitzpatrick in the HSE.

In addition to the headstone, two seats, an eternal light and an area for fresh flowers with two granite vases will be placed at the plot.

Last summer the older plot, was criticised for being in a neglected state.

Portlaoise Town Councillor, Caroline Dwane said she welcomed the fact that the plot will at last be upgraded to a very high standard and was delighted to have been part of the committee whose hard work brought this about.

“I thank the committee members and in particular relatives of babies in the plot and Mary Fitzpatrick of the HSE. The committee has been a pleasure to work with and we will continue until the project is completed,” Cllr Dwane said.

A live website link has been set up for families to follow the improvements at www.hse.ie/holyangelsportlaoise and a remembrance mass will be held in December before Christmas.

Plans for the new plot, which now holds 5 babies, will be reviewed at a later stage.
