The HSE could be about to come up with a one size fits all plan where nursing homes such as Abbeyleix face closure.
While the HSE declined to make any senior manager available for interview it said it is near the end of a process. It issued a statement to the Leinster Express in which it said it has a “generic” plan.
“The HSE is finalising a generic process which will apply to all locations where consultation on the closure of a long stay unit is taking place.
“A lot of work is going into finalising this standardised national approach which, given the importance of the process, is essential to ensure that a comprehensive and robust template is available to guide staff in these cases.
“The HSE are now at a point of finalising this approach and this will provide a framework for all stakeholders to contribute to the decision making process. These stakeholders include patients, relatives, staff, public representatives and any other interested parties,” said the statement..
