An Abbeyleix woman charged with drug possession has been given the opportunity to avoid a conviction by making a donation to the court poor box.

Amy Lawlor, 4 Fassadine, Abbeyleix, committed the offence at the Portlaoise Heritage Hotel, on June 9.

Inspector Aidan Farrelly told the district court Lawlor passed a cannabis joint to her partner in a car.

Defence, Mr Declan Breen said 22-year-old Lawlor had no previous convictions, and was willing to make a contribution.

Judge Catherine Staines ordered Lawlor to pay €200 to the poor box and the matter was put back to February 12 next year.
