A Polish national has been fined €200 for being abusive to the gardaí after he was asked to leave a house.

A Polish national has been fined €200 for being abusive to the gardaí after he was asked to leave a house.

Slawomir Ignatowicz, 5 Market Place, Portlaoise, committed the offence at Market Place, Portlaoise, on October 22.

Inspector Aidan Farrelly gave evidence the gardaí were called to a domestic dispute. The defendant was asked to leave the house and when he got outside he became abusive to the gardaí.

He had 12 previous convictions.

Defence, Ms Josephine Fitzpatrick said Ignatowicz had been in the house when an argument ensued and words were exchanged, before things spilled out onto the street.

Ms Fitzpatrick said it had been Ignatowicz’s friend who had called the gardaí as he feared for Ignatowicz’s safety.
