SPEED up Colliers lane

Councillor Jerry Lodge has called on Laois County Council to speed up essential improvements to Colliers Lane/Borris Road, including cycle lanes, in the interest of road safety for all students attending the new schools

Laois County Council’s Roads Department said they plan to complete the job this year on Colliers Lane and were consulting with the Department of Transport for approval to complete a cycle lane to the school along the planned new road alignment in 2012 on the Borris Road.

Cllr Lodge said that collectively, progress was being made on the road.

“It’s taken a year and a half to get the school gates widened. Collectively we are making progress,” he said.

He urged the council to make sure Colliers Lane was finished before the start of the new school term in September.

More signs on new road

Cllr Rotimi Adebari has called for signs on the Southern Circular Route for motorists coming from the Stradbally/Carlow Road.

The Independent councillor believes the signs are needed to show motorists where the road leads. He said they would also highlight the Portlaoise Retail Park.
