Killenard Lodge Estate where water was turned off at no notice by the developer last month, is to be taken in charge by Laois County Council, after a legal clarification by the Attorney General on Irish Water.

“Things have changed quite quickly in this area. Funding remains with the planning authority, so with this estate being substantially compliant and well finished, we will be advancing the taking in charge in the next few weeks,” said Director of Services Kieran Kehoe at the Port Graigue district meeting.

He added that there was “no need to issue boil water notices”, done by the developer recently.

“That water is tested every three to four days,” he added, saying that the “most cost effective solution” will be to switch the water supply from the private well to the mains.
