Laois Voluntary and not-for-profit community groups or organisations that contribute towards a sustainable Laois and beyond stand a chance of sharing €2000.00.

Laois Voluntary and not-for-profit community groups or organisations that contribute towards a sustainable Laois and beyond stand a chance of sharing €2000.00.

This recognition is an initiative of Laois Environmental Action Forum (LEAF) and is running in conjunction with the Laois Community and Voluntary Awards 2014.

LEAF wants to hear from local community groups or organisations involved in an ecologically sound or environmentally sustainable project - whether food, energy, waterwaste, transport, biodiversity, community resilience or local economy.

The environmental group wants to create awareness of sustainable projects and all entries will be published online.

Groups or organisations can send their stories with photographs and video footage, or direct enquiries to LEAF by email to infolaoisleaf@gmail.com. Entries close by 5 pm on Thursday, November 20.

This competition is being organised by LEAF and funded as part of the Local Agenda 21 initiative by Laois County Council in conjunction with the Department of Community, Environment and Local Government.

Nominations closed last Friday for the Laois Community and Voluntary awards 2014.

This year nominations were sought for the categories of sport and recreation, community service and support, art, heritage and environment.

There was also two special categories this year for the unsung hero and the young person of the year.

The award winners will be announced shortly.
