Laois County Council Area Engineer Orla Barrett is hoping to grant some wishes this year for Laois county councillors.
Ms Barrett told Portarlington Graiguecullen area cllrs at their meeting last Wednesday, January 21 to write their “wish lists”, for jobs they want to get done by the council this year with their discretionary budgets of €2,000 each, and present them to her at the February meeting.
She promised to cost up each proposal and advise on which gives the best value.
“I want your wish lists in two weeks, you are allowed one page. I can advise you on what is most practical, engineering wise, and what would be of most benefit,” she said.
Plenty of footpaths are awaiting repairs she said.
“We have a frightening amount of information regarding damaged footpaths, and I can show you which have the highest footfall, to do them first,” she said.
“I wish to have €100k,” quipped Cllr Ben Brennan.
“It’s like Christmas all over again,” said Cllr Tom Mulhall.
