A PORTARLINGTON man fined and disqualified from driving for having no insurance or licence on two separate occasions was one of several people convicted of motoring offences at last week’s District Court.

A PORTARLINGTON man fined and disqualified from driving for having no insurance or licence on two separate occasions was one of several people convicted of motoring offences at last week’s District Court.

Gerard Eglington committed the offence at Main Street, Portarlington, on April 30 and again on June 18 this year. Defence, Mr Philip Meagher said Eglington’s partner had been feeling poorly on June 18, so he had made the foolish decision to drive.

Eglington received fines totalling €800 and was disqualified from driving for two years and four years.

Meanwhile, Shane O’Brien, 78 Cherry Grove, Portlaoise, was fined €300 for holding a mobile phone while driving, at James Fintan Lalor Avenue, Portlaoise, on November 11 last year.

Rosaleen Casey, 26 Derrymore, Port, was fined €150 for parking in a disabled parking space, at Cooltederry, Port, on November 9.

Martin O’Neill, Narnia, Spa Street, Portarlington, was fined €150 for no NCT, at Main Street, Port, on July 8.

Karla Jordan, 60 Clanmilire Close, Portarlington, was given the probation act for not wearing a seat belt at Market Square, Port, on August 24.

Amanda Carroll, 62 St Brigid’s Square, Portarlington, was fined €150 for parking in a disabled space at Main Street, Port, on October 18.

Cathal Bourke, Killimy, Emo, Portlaoise, was fined €150 for no NCT, at Tower Hill, Portlaoise, on January 20 this year.

Niall Fitzpatrick, 7 Highfield Meadows, Portlaoise, was fined €100 for no NCT, at The Heath, Portarlington, on January 26.
