“A LOT of stuff happens in the dead of night,” stated Cllr Stephen Lynch at Thursday’s meeting of Mountmellick Town Council. He was complaining of litter at Lower Forest.

He warned, “There’s burning going on. If that gets out of hand with the forest...”

Cllr Bobby Delaney described the situation as “deplorable.” He thought signs should be erected to inform the public that their complaints about dumping were being investigated.

He revealed, “I gave them (Co Council environmental section) photos and number plates and I never heard back from them.”

Cllr Marc Connolly said Council officials had contacted him.
“Don’t try to talk me down,” responded Cllr Delaney.

Cllrs Paddy Bracken, Rosemary Whelan and Ollie Payne supported Cllr Delaney’s call for signs.

Chairman Cllr Pat Bowe said he would bring this issue up at the environmental SPC.
