A PORTLAOISE man convicted of theft and the possession of a knife has been put on probation.

David Condon, 32 Mountain View Square, committed a theft at 11 The Beeches, Forest Park, Portlaoise, on October 19, 2010. He was also convicted of being in possession of stolen property and possession of certain articles at his home in October 2011. He faced further charges of being intoxicated in public and of being in possession of a knife.

The court heard that all stolen property was recovered by gardaí.

The case was previously adjourned for Condon to engage with the probation service. At last week’s court, Judge Catherine Staines remarked that the report from the service was very good.

“These are very serious matters and you could be going to jail today,” she warned Condon, but she said she would instead place him on a probation bond for 12 months. “If you commit any further offences you’ll go to jail,” she said.
