New era for Laois business

LAOIS Chamber of Commerce welcomed their new President at their recent AGM in the Heritage Hotel.

LAOIS Chamber of Commerce welcomed their new President at their recent AGM in the Heritage Hotel.

Conal Bradley, of Avid Partners accountants and business advisors, replaces outgoing president Breda Stackpoole, who cited work and family reasons for retiring as president.

A Newbridge native now based in Laois, Bradley plans to promote Laois as a business location, while increasing membership, which stands at 150.

“It’s true we don’t have much IDA backed or blue chip businesses, but we have strong entrepreneurship. I want to help get Laois businesses back on the map. I have heard the phrase ‘forgotten county’, but what if we are not forgotten, we just forgot how to promote ourselves?,” he said at the AGM.

He explains how the chamber helps businesses.

“We offer advice, support and knowledge. We give opportunities to promote businesses, and to express a louder voice on the big issues like rates and grants. I am looking forward to the year. Hopefully it will be a busy one,” he said.

Among the events he plans this year are the annual golf classic in Mountrath and social events held quarterly.

“We are also looking at introducing formal network morning meetings,” he said.

Staying on this year are secretary Ger Reddy and treasurer Trevor Hinch.
