Cllr Brendan Phelan launched his Independent Fianna Fail campaign at Ian Maher’s lounge in Rathdowney last Friday night.
Councillor Brendan Phelan stressed that “it is critical that the seat on Laois County Council, that has been defended for over 40 years in the Borris-in-Ossory electoral area, not be lost to the other end of the county, to Mountmellick/Rosenalis.
“How can we leave representation on Laois County Council for people in Borris-in-Ossory, Ballaghmore, Ballacolla, Clough, Camross, Castletown, Cullahill, Durrow, Donaghmore, Errill, Killasmeestia, Mountrath, Paddock and Rathdowney to a Councillor from Mountmellick/Rosenalis,” he asked.
“It is critical that the seat is defended and held in the Borris-in-Ossory part of the electoral area, otherwise in five years time it will be a big battle to regain it.”
Cllr Phelan stated that he is the only sitting Fianna Fail Councillor contesting the local elections in the old Borris-in-Ossory electoral area and he has a record of experience and achievement in actively serving the community on both the Council and community groups.
His priorities include job creation, restoration of housing aid grants and free telephone line for the elderly, keeping local community hospitals in Abbeyleix and Shaen open, ensuring services for rural areas such as post offices, schools, playgrounds and securing funding for all other essential services, such as roads, housing, support for the farming community, transport, sports and leisure facilities, health services and planning.
The majority of those who attended the launch were supporters from across the Fianna Fail organisation in the Borris-in-Ossory electoral area.
