A probation report was last week ordered on a Portarlington man convicted of supplying drugs.

Michael Buckingham, Gracefield, Portarlington, was charged with two counts of drug possession, and one count of sale or supply, at Apt 3, The Oaks, Kilnacourt Woods, Port, on November 27 last year.

Inspector Aidan Farrelly gave evidence that gardaí found three deals of cannabis worth €60 and two ecstasy tablets in his house. Buckingham admitted to gardaí that he had been supplying drugs to his friends.

This followed an arrest in August 20 last year, when he was stopped by gardaí at the Portarlington Leisure Centre and found to have €25 of cannabis in his car.

Buckingham had no previous convictions.

Defence, Mr Philip Meagher said Buckingham had a drug difficulty for the last number of years and had been feeding his habit by buying extra stock. He has since taken matters in hand and is now drug free, said Mr Meagher.

The matter was put back to December 4 for a probation report.
