A Kildare woman who stole a scarf from a local store was last week given the probation act.

Amy McCormack, 1 The Waterways, Sallins, was charged with theft from Dunnes Stores, Kyle Shopping Centre, Portlaoise, on February 18, 2011.

Judge Catherine Staines noted that McCormack had failed to turn up in court to meet the charge on two occasions and had to be arrested three times, having been charged with stealing a scarf worth €6.

Defence for McCormack said she had been a drug addict for a while, but is now on methadone. Judge Staines applied the probation act, section 1.2.
