PORTLAOISE traditional Irish band, Ceoltoirí Duchais, was one of the finalists at the inaugural Trad for Trócaire Battle of the Bands at the Fleadh Cheoil.
The young Portlaoise band was one of seven bands to compete at the event, which was eventually won by Truancy, a band from Thurles.
Ceoltoirí Duchais came together during a summer music workshop ran by Portlaoise CCE with funding from Laois Partnership Company where they developed their knowledge of music theory and practice.
At the end of the course they made a professional recording, entered the competition and made it to the national final.
The band put in a fantastic performance at the Battle of the Bands final at the Fleadh Cheoil, which was held in Cavan last Friday, August 17.
The competition is being run in the lead up to Trad for Trócaire, a national traditional music week run by Trocaire and Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, which will take place from October 4 to 10.
The week celebrates Irish music, while raising funds to help poor people living in developing countries.
