A MOUNTRATH woman caught driving without insurance who told the District Court in Portlaoise that she only drove to get an inhaler for her chronic asthma escaped a driving disqualification when she last week appeared before Judge Catherine Staines.

Teresa Fleming, with an address at 57 Rushall, Mountrath, was also charged with having no NCT and no licence, when she was stopped at New Link Road, Mountrath, on November 15 last year.

Defence, Mr Declan Breen explained that his client suffered with chronic asthma and had left her inhaler behind in a friend’s house on the night.

“She very foolishly made the decision to take her partner’s car to get the inhaler,” he said.

Fleming was fined €300.
