Second home tax raises €2.8 million in Laois

Since 2009 just over €2.8 million has been collected in Laois the non principal private residence charge. The tax is charged to the owners of second houses. Figures published in the Dail show that the biggest amount was paid in 2010 when more than €745,000 was raised from the charge.

Up to late October nearly €300 million has been raised nationally. Laois is one of the lowest contributors to the State coffers from the tax. The county was fifth from bottom in terms of money raised. Dublin City Council topped the list with more than €50 million paid.
