TRANSACTIONS during which scrap is sold should be on camera, Councillor Brendan Phelan said at this quarter’s Laois Joint Policing Committee meeting.

“There is a major problem with valuable machinery and trailers. The problem is the value of scrap and how easy it is to expose it”, he said. Chief Superintendent John Scanlon said that he understood that a bill is before the Dáil to regulate the scrap trade. “They’re not all bad people, some are. There is a legislative move to address the issue”.
