Murder suspect released as search for Aoife Phelan continues

THE 24-year-old man arrested and questioned by Gardaí in Portlaoise on suspicion of murdering four months pregnant Laois au pair Aoife Phelan was released without charge around midnight.

THE 24-year-old man arrested and questioned by Gardaí in Portlaoise on suspicion of murdering four months pregnant Laois au pair Aoife Phelan was released without charge around midnight.

The man who is known to Aoife was arrested on Monday afternoon and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The search for Aoife has recommenced this morning focusing on a stretch of the River Barrow on the Laois/Kildare border.

Divers from the Garda Water Unit also spent four hours searching stretches of waterway yesterday (Tuesday, November 6).

Thirty-year old Aoife lived with her parents Michael and Betty in Ballyroan and she is one of twelve children. She has been missing since Thursday, October 25.
