Rural areas will lose out, claims Timahoe’s Daly

Timahoe Councillor, James Daly, claims he has a battle on his hands to retain his council seat following boundary changes in his area.

Timahoe Councillor, James Daly, claims he has a battle on his hands to retain his council seat following boundary changes in his area.

“It’s more disappointing that these changes have been made by my own party.”

Cllr Daly said the polling station at Knock had been moved into the new Portlaoise electoral area.

“Knock extends to The Swan to within half a mile of my homeplace and within two miles Timahoe.

“I don’t understand why the extended Portlaoise so far out. You are taking 493 voters out of our area.”

Cllr Daly said the changes would negatively affect the most rural areas in the county.

“Some rural areas are going to loose out because there own’t be a councillor in the area.

“I wouldn’t consider moving to the Portlaoise area. I want to stay in my own area, but it will be a battle to keep my seat.”
