A steeply inclined bridge on the R422 Emo to Mountmellick road is to get €15,000 worth of safety measures this year.
The news was announced at the recent Emo area meeting that Carn bridge is to get new signs and road markings to alert drivers to slow down on approach to the railway bridge.
“This is good news for Carn bridge, a stretch of road further on has got more funding from the capital roads programme and the RSRM scheme,” said Cllr Tom Mulhall, who had asked for an update on the proposed safety measures.
Senior engineer Orla Barrett reported the allocation of the money, adding that improvement works would also take place this year.
“There are houses and entrances near it, and motorists go over that bridge faster than they should. I am sure line markings will make it safer,” Cllr Mulhall said.
