Rubbish bins in Portarlington and Stradbally are in need of replacement says Cllr James Deegan, but the council disagree.
At the recent Emo area council meeting, he asked the council to replace bins that “have become the worse for wear”.
The reply from environment official Colette O’Rourke was that the bins were in good working order, and there was no money to replace them.
28 new ‘omos’ bins with cigarette receptacles were installed in both towns after a review of bins across Laois, she said.
“Ones brought to my attention certainly weren’t in good working order. They were in a deplorable state, but the collection service is very good. There is a new man sweeping the street in Stradbally, he is looking after them well,” Cllr Deegan said.
