A Portlaoise man who called a garda a “crooked headed c**t” was ordered to write a letter of apology to the gardaí at Portlaoise District Court last week.

The court heard that John Kelly, 69 Hillview Drive, Portlaoise became abusive towards gardaí when he was refused entry to his home, which was a crime scene following a stabbing.

He also called Garda Cahill an “ugly headed c**t” on the night.

Defending, Josephine Fitzpatrick, said there had been an aggravated burglary at the defendant’s home that night and his nephew had been stabbed.

She said the house was cordoned off and when Kelly returned the next morning he was still refused entry to get some clothes.

The case was adjourned to November 14 to allow Kelly time to write the letter and for a community service report.
