A Kilkenny woman has been fined €200 for shoplifting.

Rebecca Connors, 2 Cluain na Saggart, Paulstown, Kilkenny, was charged with theft and criminal damage, at TK Maxx, Kyle Shopping Centre, Portlaoise, on December 14, 2013.

Inspector Aidan Farrelly gave evidence that Connors and another woman were observed removing the security tags from items with snips, and damaged shoes in the process.

The car they were travelling in was searched and further stolen property was recovered.

Defence, Ms Anne Manning said that Connors had travelled to Portlaoise on the day with her sister-in-law and “became aware” of the shoplifting. She acceded to the other woman’s request to assist, and is “genuinely sorry”.

Connors was convicted as outlined.
