Portlaoise College’s first years are settling in to learning with tablet devices instead of heavy schoolbooks.

It is the third year of e-learning in the school.

The tablets are pre-loaded with text books, interactive dictionaries, exam papers and apps, costing €600 over three years, with payment plans offered by the school.

It has been received positively by students and parents says principal Noel Daly.

“It is not much dearer than books, and cheaper than iPads as we get a group discount. It is mandatory so all students benefit,” he said.
