Probation act for having methadone

A Portlaoise man has been given probation after being caught with drugs.

A Portlaoise man has been given probation after being caught with drugs.

Michael O’Shea, with an address at 207 St Brigid’s Place, was charged with drug possession at the Mountrath Road, Portlaoise, on May 30 this year.

Inspector Aidan Farrelly gave evidence that gardaí stopped and searched O’Shea and found methadone valued at €80. O’Shea admitted it was for his own use.

O’Shea has previous convictions for drugs.

Defence, Mr Philip Meagher said O’Shea has had a long-standing heroin addiction.
