Brian Stanley TD wants the Government to publish the the financial and job costs of setting up a new water service.
The Sinn Fein spokesman on Environment, Community and Local Government called on Environment Minister, Phil Hogan to reveal how much Irish Water will cost the exchequer.
“The government is committed to taking control of the water sector away from the 34 local authorities and handing it over to the newly established Irish Water.
“The cost of establishing and running this new company has never been made public because the Government simply does not know how much it will cost.
“The Minister has avoided answering this question,” he said.
Deputy Stanley also challenged the impact on Laois County Council where it is understood more than 50 staff are attached to the water services department.
