A MEETING will be held today to determine the future of the East End Hotel in Portarlington. The hotel has been closed for the past week due to a dispute over rent between the owners and hotel manager.

Joe Boland who has been running the hotel told the Leinster Express that “we are in dispute with the landlords over the rent and we are hoping it will get resolved. Some ticket sales for the Alsan concert have to be resolved and will be resolved. The timing was unfortunate”.

Mr Boland said that he would be meeting with owners to try and resolve the situation.

Aslan were due to perform at the venue last Saturday night and the gig’s cancellation was made public on Aslan’s official Facebook page last Thursday. “We are sorry to announce that the venue for Saturday’s gig in Portarlington, has gone into receivership and the gig has been cancelled, for anyone who bought tickets you will need to try contact the venue for refunds”.

Mark Downey from Aslan’s booking agents AMA said that the group were very disappointed not to be performing in Laois at the weekend.

“They will definitely come back to Laois as there are a lot of fans in the area. The lads are well up for another gig and we will try and reschedule one as soon as possible.” Mr Downey said that AMA received a message on Wednesday from an Aslan fan telling them that the venue was boarded up, and that they haven’t had any contact with the hotel.

Portarlington Lions Club President Willie Murphy said that the closure came as a shock to people in the town.

“We got no indication and people are surprised to hear. The doors are closed and there is no notice. Nobody knows what happened,” he said.
