IT is unlikely that water grids installed thoughout the Borris in Ossory catchment area will be reviewed and recorded, according to Michael Malone, senior executive engineer with Laois County Council.

He was asked by Councillor Michael Lalor if the council would carry out a review and record all water grids installed in the Borris in Ossory area, in order to prevent flooding. Mr malone said that drainage is maintained subject to budget and staff resources. “I don’t know where I would find the staff to do it. There is nobody to do it and it is very unlikely to happen”.

Cllr Lalor said that there has been flooding in Ballaghmore, and that gullies have been covered with tarmacadam in several other places. He was told by Mr Malone that any road worker would have no reason to be confused regarding covering gullies and that it has been explained to them. “If there are people in County Hall who don’t know that is out of my remit. I am not allowed to get contractors to do the work”, he said. “You do very valuable work”, said Cllr Lalor.
