Across the board public sector pay cut unfair, says Fleming

LAOIS Offaly TD Sean Fleming is calling on the Government to withdraw its threat of a 7 per cent pay cut across the board for all public servants.

LAOIS Offaly TD Sean Fleming is calling on the Government to withdraw its threat of a 7 per cent pay cut across the board for all public servants.

“This approach is totally unfair as it would mean workers on low pay would have a pay cut,” said Deputy Fleming. “All low and medium paid public servants are in severe financial difficulty and could not afford such an approach.”

Dep Fleming explained that last week in the Dáil, Fianna Fáil opposed the 2013 estimates of expenditure which included the rejected Croke Park 2 proposals. He said people must wait and see if the Labour Relations Commission can come up with fair proposals to replace the rejected
deal.

“The Government’s actions are making this task more difficult. The Labour Relations Commission must be allowed get on with their important work without threats to public servants by the Government,” he said,

Deputy Fleming concluded by saying that the test of any agreement is fairness.

“Any proposals or legislation that are not fair will be rejected by us,” he
said.
