Sweet thief jailed over damage

last Thursday April 25 charged with criminal damage, stealing sweets and computer
 games.

Luke O’Grady, 25, from 70 De Vesci Court, Fairgreen, was caught after he stole a bag of sweets worth €1.60 from Dunnes Stores, 
Mountmellick Road, on April 12, whereupon he admitted the theft and handed back the 
sweets.

On the same day he did €300 worth of damage to a door at 70 DeVesci Court, his girlfriend’s home. The Gardaí were called and he admitted the 
offence.

O’Grady was also charged with a theft on October 2 2012 in Tesco Portlaoise. He took two computer games and a DVD, wrapped them in tin foil, placed them in a bag and left the shop. He was stopped by security staff and admitted the 
theft.

Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick told Judge Catherine Staines that last week O’Grady had begun a prison sentence for another crime. He has eleven previous convictions.

Judge Staines handed down a six month prison sentance for the criminal damage, taking other matters into 
consideration during 
sentencing..
