LAOIS County Council must take action on the derelict sites adjacent to Lake Vale, Portlaoise, to tackle the problem of illegal dumping and the dangers of children playing in unfinished construction areas.
That was the proposal made by Cllr Alan Hand.
“There are five sites in various states of completion,” he said. “One is used for dumping and has attracted vermin. In the others, the foundations are laid but it’s gone no further. There are children playing there, hurling around roof slates.”
Cllr Caroline Dwane said the issue has been going on for years and she would like to see one of the sites turned into a recreational area.
Cllr Jerry Lodge informed her he thought planning permission had been given to turn one of the sites into a playground.
